An Emotional Surprise – A Love Song

Nothing says I love you more than a groom surprising his bride at their wedding and singing her a song! Check out this surprise performance at a recent wedding we shot at King Plow in Atlanta, GA.

The St. Regis – Atlanta, GA

I was pretty excited going into Kristen and Matthew’s wedding after shooting the rehearsal dinner the night before and meeting the couple and their family and friends for the first time.  I certainly was not disappointed as everyone was very welcoming and the St. Regis staff was ever accommodating.

The details and prep went by fast as we were scheduled for about an hour in the bride’s room but we were still able to capture some beautiful shots as the light falling through window was nicely diffused.  Since the groom had not arrived yet, I decided to try out shooting the bride’s dress sequence with the Freefly Movi while having my second shooter on the monopod.  I was incredibly happy with the outcome and I’ll definitely be doing this again.

Oh, and I forgot to mention I worked with one of my favorite photographers – Chris with 6 of Four.  I always enjoy working with him.  He is one of the most talented photographers in the industry and it always helps when you can trust that person to share just a little bit of their time with the couple so you can get some great creative shots.

Our portrait session was one of my favorites of all time.  I shot everything in 60fps on the Movi so I could slow it down later in post using the wind to my advantage. There is just something so fantastic about the veil, the hair, and the dress all moving through the wind in slow motion.

The St. Regis ballroom is the perfect size and I really enjoy shooting the formal dances in there because there is just enough space to move around and get these really grand wide shots.  Kristen and Matt’s first dance just turned out spectacular and and I loved when the groom and his mother joined the FOB and the bride on the dance floor for the parent’s dances!

From the late night snacks, the unique high energy set from Perfect Ten, the LED glasses, and the photo booth, this was a reception to remember and we’ll never forget it.  Congratulations to Kristen and Matthew and may they share many wonderful years together!

Summerour Studio – Atlanta, GA

We kicked off the new year with Katie and Chris at Summerour Studio in Atlanta, GA. These guys were so fun and easy to work with and their friends and family were a blast!

Our first destination was the Four Seasons for bride and groom prep where we were able to grab some beautiful detail shots of the dress and shoes in a small courtyard and we also used the same location for the emotional first look between the bride and her father. The staff at the Four Seasons was exceptional as always and provided us access to get the shots we needed.  Our schedule permitted us plenty of time to capture bride and groom prep, bridesmaids first look, and capture audio and reactions for the heartfelt letters that the couple wrote to each other.  Hats off to the bride for being so incredibly detailed.  This day couldn’t have been more flawless!

Summerour Studio is one of my favorite venues in the city.  It’s off the beaten path but close enough where you have a view of the Atlanta skyline.  The front looks like a rustic villa while the interior has a modern industrial vibe.  We arrived just before the couple’s scheduled first look to capture drone and establishing shots of the venue.  I was so impressed with Summerour in February and the amazing decor.

Inside, the room was divided by a fabric curtain for the ceremony while the reception was being prepared.  The ceremony took place in front of the grand staircase that was decorated with beautiful flower arrangements and warm candle light.   The officiant was a family friend, which is always a great thing in my experience because it just feels so genuine and heartfelt.  The ceremony was short and sweet and so were the vows.  You could really see the spark and the love Katie and Chris had for each other.

The reception was an absolute blast and everyone had a great time!  Sweet Water Junction Band was fun, energetic, and had an amazing repertoire of music.  They just had such great attitudes and were very easy to work with.  The night ended with a send-off via sparklers and a vintage car.  It was a perfect day and I wish Katie and Chris many wonderful years together!
